enate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell froze and struggled to speak again on Wednesday, the second time in less than two months that he has had such an episode.
The incident occurred at an event in Covington, Kentucky, where McConnell was asked about his plans to run for re-election in 2026. He began to answer the question, but then paused for about 30 seconds and did not speak. He did not appear to immediately respond when a member of his staff approached him to ask if he had heard the question.
After a few moments, McConnell was able to continue speaking, but he appeared to be somewhat flustered. He said that he was “fine” and that he had just “misheard the question.”
McConnell’s health has been a topic of speculation in recent months. In July, he suffered a similar episode at a news conference in Washington, D.C. In that case, he was also briefly unable to speak, but he was able to return to the lectern and continue speaking to reporters.
